Cycling in and around Dunbar

Bike image With the lowest rainfall and highest levels of sunshine in Scotland it’s no surprise that so many people choose to cycle round Dunbar. The town is compact and mostly flat. The newly established Dunbar Cycling Group provides a focus for cycling activities in the town.

Cycle Fact Sheets

The following fact sheets are part of a series produced by Sustaining Dunbar for the Neighbours Together project:

Cycle Training

Sustaining Dunbar runs cycle training through the What’s Stopping You? project which aims to get hesitant cyclists on their bikes by providing advice and support, cycle training and bike maintenance skills.

Cycle Maps

Spokes, the Lothian Cycle Campaign, produces the definitive cycle maps of Edinburgh and the Lothians. Their East Lothian map can be purchased online or at the Sustaining Dunbar shop at 16 West Port.

Recommended local cycle routes can be found on the East Lothian Council website, or at dunbarcycling.org.uk (links on right-hand side of page)

Bike Recycling

The Bike StationThe Bike Station is Edinburgh’s bicycle recycling and cycling promotion charity. They repair unwanted bikes and put them back on the road, and sell or use the refurbished bikes to promote cycling across Edinburgh, the Lothians and beyond.

The Bike Station collects used bikes from East Lothian Council’s recycling centre in Macmerry, but unfortunately does not have the resources to collect scrap bikes from Dunbar. However, they will arrange to come to your house to collect an unwanted bike which is in reasonable condition, if you cannot find another home for it. You might also try Freecycle.org on which you can advertise goods you wish to give away, or use the small ads facility of Dunbar Cycling Group.
